Here are answers to some questions we are frequently asked.

How much does a kitchen cost?
Good question! We get asked this question a lot. Believe it or not, kitchens are much like vacations and weddings. No matter what budget you plan, there are always those little extras that you can't live without. The range of budgets is wide and varied. We have cabinet lines to meet all budgets and design tastes. Knowing your investment capabilities and the value of your home are good solid indicators of a wise investment.
Consider how long you want to live in your home. Investing in a kitchen re-do, if you are planning to put your home on the market may be very different than if you plan to spend years in your home.

How long does it take to do a kitchen?
Each project is different. Smaller projects can take two to three weeks; other larger projects may take as long as several months. It depends largely on the scope of the work involved. In the beginning, the selection process may take weeks. Fine tuning the design work can take place over 2 weeks to 2 months. Once the contracts are signed, cabinets are ordered to go into production. All of our cabinet manufacturers custom build cabinets per order. Delivery of cabinetry can take up to 7 weeks. In the meantime, all other components are ordered and stored in our warehouse. When your cabinets arrive, we will have everything ready for installation. Coordinating your project with other contractors is always challenging, but we will work as steadily as possible. We promise to stay attentive to your job until completion.

What insures me that I will be completely satisfied with my project?
Your total satisfaction is our goal. Everyone at Gate City Kitchens strives to make certain our clients are totally satisfied with their project. Much time is invested in listening, designing and planning for the new kitchen or bath. You will receive views of your new cabinets. We will order color and door samples for your approval. You will have a projected time line of how and when your project will be carried out. Our caring craftsmen take their time to make sure the cabinets are installed properly. Our products all carry factory warranties. Our labor is warranted for a full year after completion. We are delighted to provide you with references from clients. After all, this is your home and your investment. We take your satisfaction very seriously! Your satisfaction is a direct correlation to our reputation. It's just that important to us!

Are you a contractor?
No. Gate City Kitchens is a kitchen design firm. We specialize in designing cabinetry for the home and office. We work closely with other remodeling and building partners to ensure your project runs smoothly and efficiently.

Why do you require a design retainer when others will design my kitchen for free?
There really is no such thing as "free". There are several companies that promote free estimates. This is your option. We have found most of our clients appreciate receiving dedicated time to a project. If we worked for free, we wouldn't be able to commit ourselves with time, talent and care to create a plan that meets our standards or your expectations. A design takes hours to complete and our retainer fee assures you of priority service. The amount is credited toward your cabinetry purchase. We all expect to pay for professional time. While there may be companies that offer "free" estimates, we have all learned that "you get what you pay for".

Can I keep the plans and views of my new kitchen?
During the design phase, you are welcome to stop by our office and review your elevations and floor plans. We will provide three dimensional views of the project for you to keep. The floor plans will eventually be used to specify your products, appliances, lighting, etc. Our installation team uses them to install and coordinate your project. Final details are not completed until the project has been sold and contracts are signed. Because of this, we do not release floor plans. Once you have purchased your project, you will be given a concept floor plan and any elevations desired.

Will you design my kitchen and sell me the cabinets? I want to install my own cabinetry.
Occasionally, we have agreed to this arrangement. You must accept full responsibility for all aspects of the job. Gate City Kitchens does not take any responsibility for install errors or quality of the completed job.

How do I pay for my cabinets?
At the time you place your order, we require a 50% deposit. When your cabinets and tops arrive in our warehouse or the delivery is scheduled, another 40% is due. At completion of the project, we will collect the remaining 10%. We accept cash and checks.
